Bio:
Coy's lover of about three years
Works at a casino/inn/brothel/bar.Doesn't own it, but runs it practically single-handedly. Usually works in the bar.
Met Coy while he was passing through the town. He had tried to settle in that city thinking moving there would provide him with some stability and fell in love with Talia in the process. But he got restless and returned to being nomadic, initially trying to remain in contact with her and visit her, but eventually finding that they both found things dissatisfying that way and losing contact. She didn't go with him because she had a stable, decently paying job and just in general had her own life going that she was happy with.
But the real reason he was so restless was because of his moon-induced fits of rage. He didn't want her to see him in that state, so he would have to spend several days away from her every full moon. He was scared of hurting her and he was also scared she would be afraid of or hate him. He refused to tell her where he was going and why and she was bothered by his secretiveness.
One night she was threatened by a group of patrons of the casino who blamed her for their gambling losses. Coy was supposed to be away for the full moon but instinct called him back to protect her. He ended up killing all of the people who had threatened her. When Coy transforms he goes into kind of a fugue state so he didn't know what he had done until a few days later. She was scared of him but wanted to talk about it, but he felt certain she would hate him for it, so he left.
He did stay in contact with her through letters, eventually explaining everything, but the damage of his dishonesty had already been done, and without him being in proximity to her, it was too hard to repair their relationship.
In some ways Coy fell in love with Talia because she was the only person he was ever really capable of getting that close to aside from a couple old friends from childhood. He saw her every night that he lived at the inn so they were able to form an actual relationship. She was the only person he felt he could just talk to about things. He liked that she was independent and could take care of herself. She was funny, a little mean to him, and very caring. He'd never had someone willing to take care of him before -- he usually found himself taking care of other people. And Talia fell in love with him because she saw how caring he was to other people. Most of the men in her life were kind of fucked up. Misogynistic, greedy, just didn't really care about the well-being of other people. Talia saw how Coy stood up for her and other people and admired him for it. And she liked that he let her be independent and didn't push her to get married or anything. But in the end he was too protective of her and she was too independent and they just has mismatched needs and no way of healthily communicating them. I think they both fantasize about each other and buying land somewhere rural and settling down together, but they both know that in the end they just have fundamentally different needs and were with each other partially out of convenience.
I haven't really thought much about Talia's future but I think eventually she does find a relationship she's happy in that still lets her pursue the kind of life she wants. And I think Coy has other relationships but none of them ever feel "right" to him.
